East of England 2019 Summary

On Saturday we took two teams to Hatfield for the East of England Universities Championship, where both individual and team events were split into first team and non-first team competitions.

Individuals:

The first team kicked off the morning with the individual championship, where Joe and Barri reached the last 16, and Jonathan made the quarter finals before losing to the eventual runner up.

Daniel and Matt reached the last 16 of the shield, but William was in fine form all day and made the quarter finals.

Teams:

The 2nds played incredibly in the group stages, winning all 4 matches and 16 out of 20 frames to top one of the trophy groups. Sadly they lost 6-2 to Essex 2nds in the semi final, but this was a fantastic effort by an inexperienced team. Will was the clear MVP as he won all his team frames at only his second tournament!

The 1st team started slowly with narrow 3-2 defeats to Essex and UCL, before improving massively to beat LSE, Hertfordshire and Birmingham to finish 4th in the group. The semi final against Cambridge was a disappointing 6-1 loss, but we showed our class to demolish UCL 6-0 to claim the pride of 3rd place and enough prize money to cover the cost of our pizza.

Overall it was a successful tournament for both Warwick teams. The 1st team had their highest finish of the year and improved significantly on the respective Cambridge tournament last year, while Sam and Matt played very well in their first tournament for the club and gained valuable experience.
