Coventry Open Review

Another amazing tournament for us with Warwick featuring in both the team and individual finals.

Sammy Valder had the best run in the singles getting all the way to the final and just coming short to a good player from Northampton. Very impressive play all weekend from The Goat, very sharp form for upcoming tournaments and whole club is extremely proud of his achievement.

Warwick took 4 teams and dominated the event! The 3rds has a tough group and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the knockouts, but had a thrilling match against Coventry 1 which they narrowly lost. The 2nds and 4ths both qualified from the groups and the seconds reached the semi final after beating Coventry 1s in the 3 man playoff. In the semi final it was Warwick 1 v Warwick 2 where it also went to a 3 man playoff. It was 1-1 in the playoff then Matt Ross made a very tricky black under huge pressure to take the firsts through to the final. The 1sts topped their group and went straight to the quarter final against Birmingham, winning 6-4, then after beating the seconds in the semi they played Northampton in the final. The final was a close match and it was 4-4 with Jon and Matt Ross playing the final 2 frames, when they both decided to play exhibition blacks to win their frames, giving the 1sts the team championship crown!

Very pleased to win a tournament but more happy with the performances from everyone in the squad and the support throughout the weekend. Let’s keep up the momentum by winning Southern this weekend!
